After the Fire Toolkit Now Available

The AFTER THE FIRE Toolkit has been designed to allow community coalitions, local wildfire coordinating groups, fire districts and other wildfire organizations to respond to post-fire community needs quickly, accurately, and comprehensively.

Outreach materials area already designed – all you  have to do is enter your contact information, change the resources to be appropriate for your community, and start getting the word out.

Within this toolkit you will find the following:

All of the above resources are designed to be customizable for your community.  No special software or printing capability is needed.  Any computer capable of opening, editing and printing a Microsoft Word and/or PDF file is able to utilize the materials within the toolkit.

In addition, a resource library is provided with more in-depth reading. Please take the time to review the resources available.  In particular, the NRCS technical sheets file contains customizable technical assistance sheets prepared by the Natural Resource Conservation Service.

Remember, you have a limited amount of time to prepare for post-fire impacts.  The clock starts ticking the instant fire moves across the landscape.  DO NOT WAIT.

Actions to consider WHEN THE FIRE STARTS:

  • Customize After the Fire resources contained within this toolkit for your use.
  • Have post-fire information available at public meetings about the fire; take advantage of the attention given to fire suppression to prepare residents for the next steps.
  • Contact your local NRCS office to ask about the Emergency Watershed Protection Program.  This is time sensitive, so do not wait.
  • Work with the Burned Area Emergency Response team to get information out to the public quickly and efficiently.
  • Review the Phoenix Guide contained within the resource library for more comprehensive information.
