Communications

An important step in mobilizing your community after a wildfire is to develop a process of communication. If a community Post-Fire Coordinator has been established use that position as a point person for communication and outreach. Become familiar with the Incident Command Team and Incident Command System. If possible use the Incident Command Team to convey post-wildfire hazards on the horizon, such as post-fire flooding, landscape stability changes, and water supply/quality concerns.

Take advantage of broad community outreach opportunities, such as public meetings, radio, TV, and social media. Below are other tools for effective communication in the wake of a destructive wildfire.
